What is sciatica?

Sciatica is pain that radiates from the lower back down the leg. The discomfort could radiate down the back, outside, or front of the leg. While abrupt onset is common after activities such as heavy lifting, delayed onset is also possible. The discomfort is frequently characterised as shooting.

 

Causes 

• spinal disc herniation 

• spondylolisthesis 

• spinal stenosis 

• piriformis syndrome 

• pelvic tumor 

 

Symptoms 

• pain going down the leg from the lower back 

• weakness or numbness of the affected leg 

Complications 

• Loss of bowel or bladder control
