What is infertility?

Infertility is a condition of the male or female reproductive system described by the inability to conceive after a year or more of unprotected and frequent sexual intercourse.

What are the common causes of infertility?

  • for men:
    • low sperm count
    • abnormal sperm 
    • low sperm motility
  • for women
    • problems with ovulation
      • hormonal imbalance
      • anovulation (ovum not being released from ovary during your menstrual cycle)
      • a cyst or a tumor
      • eating disorders
      • use of alcohol or other drugs
      • anxiety
      • extra weight
      • short menstrual cycles 
      • exercising at a high intensity 
    • damage to the uterus or fallopian tubes
      • inflammation of the pelvis
      • polyps in the uterus
      • adhesions or scar tissue
      • an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy in the past
      • a congenital defect
