What is infertility?
Infertility is a condition of the male or female reproductive system described by the inability to conceive after a year or more of unprotected and frequent sexual intercourse.
What are the common causes of infertility?
- for men:
- low sperm count
- abnormal sperm
- low sperm motility
- for women
- problems with ovulation
- hormonal imbalance
- anovulation (ovum not being released from ovary during your menstrual cycle)
- a cyst or a tumor
- eating disorders
- use of alcohol or other drugs
- anxiety
- extra weight
- short menstrual cycles
- exercising at a high intensity
- damage to the uterus or fallopian tubes
- inflammation of the pelvis
- polyps in the uterus
- adhesions or scar tissue
- an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy in the past
- a congenital defect
