What is fever?

Fever, also known as pyrexia, is a condition in which the body’s temperature rises over its normal range because of an increase in the temperature set point.

There is no universally accepted top limit for normal temperature in humans, with publications citing temperatures between 37.2 and 38.3 °C (99.0 and  100.9 °F)

 

What are the symptoms associated with fever?

  • Initially:
    • shivering,  
    • feeling cold
    • chills
  • Later:
    • flushed  
    • sweating

What are the common causes of fever?

  •  virus
  •  bacteria
  •  increase in the body’s  
  •  temperature set point 

Is it possible to avoid a fever?

Fever caused by an infectious condition can be significantly reduced by:

  • hygiene habits
  • be wary about the spread of viruses
  • avoid excessive usage of liquor and illegal drugs
