Malware

Malware, short for "malicious software," refers to any invasive programme created by cybercriminals (hackers) intending to disrupt a computer, server, client, or computer network via:

  • leak private information
  • gain unauthorised access to information or systems
  • deny users access to information
  • inadvertently compromise a user's computer security and privacy.

Malware defence tactics vary depending on the type of malware, but the majority may be blocked by installing antivirus software, firewalls, and other security software.
