Internet of things

The Internet of things (IoT) refers to linking all the world's devices to the internet. Devices include home appliances, autos, wearable gadgets, security camera, etc.

IoT is a concept that extends the potential of internet connectivity beyond computers to a variety of different objects, processes, and surroundings. These smarter, connected items are utilised to collect, send, or both gather and send data.

Examples:

  • a wearable gadget having a sensor that detects heart rate and activity level
  • a motion detector in a security system may send you an alert if any suspicious behavior is detected.
  • sensors that detect how dark it is outside can be used to automate lighting installations.
